<\/p>\nIt\u2019s been a long while since I have talked about Avery\u2019s vision on this blog. \u00a0Avery\u2019s low vision is a part of her daily life, our daily life, and it is simply our norm.\u00a0 At eight years old, she\u2019s proven that her low vision is not going to hold her back in life.\u00a0Will there be challenges in life?\u00a0Yes, of course.\u00a0 But everyone has challenges in life, low vision or not and what matters is how a person perseveres in the face of obstacles.<\/p>\n
When Avery was a baby and first diagnosed with cataracts, nystagumus, microthalmia, low vision\u2026.Justin and I had the conversation of our future home.\u00a0 Did we need to purchase a one-level home so Avery could better navigate?\u00a0There was so much we didn\u2019t know!<\/p>\n
Today we took the girls on their first legit hike.\u00a0 We went on the Appalachian Trail in Bluemont, VA.\u00a0 It was rocky, very rocky and steep in some sections.\u00a0 We were two minutes into the hike when she face planted hard\u2026.she didn\u2019t see a branch to the side of the trail; her foot hit it at and she totally face planted.\u00a0 She bounced right up, brushing herself off, and crying, but she was okay. \u00a0The hike was hard for her.\u00a0 But she was brave.\u00a0 With the help of Justin and I, she hiked holding Justin\u2019s hand or my hand on much of the non-level terrain.\u00a0 She identified sections that were harder for her, sometimes due to the light and how it was shining on the rocks through the trees.\u00a0 Her sisters were always ahead of her on their own.\u00a0 Yet Avery never lets that bother her.\u00a0 Low vision is her norm.<\/p>\n
That one level house\u2026she told us!\u00a0 She continues to show us her abilities.\u00a0 She teaches herself, she teaches others, she teaches us. \u00a0<\/p>\n
She perseveres.<\/p>\n
