Schools in session, which means obligatory first day school photos! \u00a0Not sure what Emerson is doing with her foot here!\"\"<\/p>\n

So typical of Avery! \u00a0Always trying to be funny and do her own thing…always trying to test boundaries….oh how it drives me crazy and makes me proud at the same time.<\/p>\n

We managed to get a normal one too.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Avery has a male teacher this year….one of the two in school. She seems pretty excited about it. She said her teacher is nice and funny.<\/p>\n

Emerson…SO grown up. \u00a0Both her and Avery, but Emerson especially…just look at her!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I could stare at this next picture all day. \u00a0There is just something about it that speaks to me…the way they have their arms around one another, the way they are looking into the camera but not smiling…I can see through their bodies and into their souls. \u00a0They fight often and more often than not don’t like being a twin, but there are moments like these when they connect and their love for one another is so present.<\/p>\n

My little Harper has no front teeth! \u00a0She was definitely a little nervous…Avery and Emerson were big helpers though and dropped her off at her class and agreed to sit next to her on the bus.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Justin was taking pictures with his big camera and here I was getting in the way trying to get some on my phone!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Harper asked to see her picture. \u00a0I LOVE this picture. \u00a0I yell at them more than I like…it’s not a lot, but I do yell some and that is too frequent. \u00a0It’s not the type of mom I want to be. \u00a0I want to enjoy every second with them. \u00a0THIS. \u00a0We are only in week one of the school year of not having an au pair. \u00a0I know it is going to be challenging but the timing feels so right. \u00a0In eight years, I have never been the one who has regularly taken them to preschool or to elementary school. \u00a0I have no regrets that I haven’t done it to date, but now…I am so excited and ready for it.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"<\/p>\n

Four years…this is the forth year in a row of taking first day pictures attending Oakton Elementary. \u00a0And it seems like Avery and Emerson going into kindergarten and me sobbing was just the other day. Time is passing by quickly! \u00a0I want to spend time with them getting ready in the mornings, helping them with their schoolwork, schlepping them to and from their activities, making their school lunches. \u00a0YES, it will drive me crazy sometimes, probably a lot truthfully, but it is a privilege being their mom and I want to “mom” for awhile.<\/p>\n

I love this next picture too. \u00a0Don’t mind my broken nail…not enough time to get to the nail salon these days “momming” more often!<\/p>\n

The bus stop crew is definitely smaller this year! \u00a0We lost a few neighbors to moves and some to new schools. \u00a0Somehow the third graders are the oldest of the bunch. \u00a0Four 3rd graders, 5 first graders, 1 kindergartener, and 2 younger siblings who will join the OES crew in a few years.<\/p>\n

I teared up a little as the bus pulled away. \u00a0Justin called me out on it at dinner and the girls started laughing. \u00a0I told them in all seriousness, I did tear up…I told them the first day represents a clean slate, a fresh start, new opportunities – it’s the promise and potential of great things in the year to come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
